Happy Birthday
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 30" x 30” August 23, 2014 (SOLD)
My good mood on my 57th birthday propelled me to spoil myself with an indulgence in colors I always coveted: cobalt blue, navy blue, silver, light grey. Happy Birthday, I reveled in the idea of not mixing colors but smashing them against each other. Subsequently, creating visual tension that they be smashed within the confines of the stripe.
This wildly gestural painting was a metaphor for a party—not a literal party. But a party of the mind and imagination transporting itself where it wants.
Imagine small airplanes, infinite bright blue skies, galaxy blacks, a few stripes with the gaiety of pink simmering in silver. Imagine colors breaking apart, coalescing elsewhere, nothing resolved. The sheer thrill of accepting color in transition, letting go.
