Cashmere
CASHMERE 30" x 30” December 26, 2014
The word ‘cashmere’ is beautiful to pronounce, slides off the tongue and evokes the extreme softness of the fabric itself. This painting juxtaposed pink and grey—which I found very chic in the fashion sense. These colors also strangely reminded me of schoolgirls’ sweaters in 1963: soft, innocent, discreet, correct.
The fifteen stripe painting alternated grey and pink with an arithmetical consistency, tinging the grey with pink, and the pink with white. This time the tinges of color were layered on top of the color field. Rather than blended into the base—to evoke something applied or resting. Like lint, or feathers that had fallen and rested on the paint.
