Evergreen
EVERGREEN 30" x 30” October 14, 2013
This, Evergreen, was a painting that pushed the limit of thinner stripes, escalating to twenty. It was a study of somber deep greens. In this case, no color matched the other, and it was a challenge to create twenty versions of green. Ultimately, that could co-exist harmoniously. The colors ranged from grey-greens, to black-greens, to lighter medium greens. Using subtle brush strokes that evoked texture but still created solid color fields in each stripe.
The painting is an homage to my love of evergreens, and feels deliberately serious and solemn. Like the evergreens growing around my house year after year, without fail.
